Project Bread's The Walk for Hunger, founded in 1969, is the oldest and largest community fundraiser for hunger solutions in Massachusetts! Always the first Sunday in May, Massachusetts residents—of all ages, backgrounds, faiths, communities, and cultures—come together to raise the issue of hunger and much needed funds to support solutions to hunger in Massachusetts.

This is the 53rd year The Walk for Hunger is taking place in Massachusetts, and the 2nd year the event will be Virtual as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Walk for Hunger - Virtual

2021 | Sunday, May 2

There is no registration fee this year to participate

The Walk for Hunger has always been a promise from the people of Massachusetts to provide relief to those struggling with food insecurity — this year is no different. Together, we will fulfill our promise to support those most in need of help as we raise funds for COVID-19 Hunger Relief.

The Walk for Hunger is your event — this year, you decide how you'll get moving to help hungry kids and families. Start fundraising and participate virtually in any way you like.

On May 2nd, you could:

  • Raise $20 for every mile you walk or run.
  • Facebook Live while playing rounds of golf.
  • Walk a number of miles in your neighborhood on your own or as part of a small group and live tweet with photographs.
  • Do whatever you think might be fun!
  • ...and tune in on Project Bread's Facebook Live stream throughout the day with Erin McAleer, Presient & CEO of Project Bread, and special guests to engage with our community.

Erin will be kicking off the day, giving updates, and closing out our "Virtual" Walk for Hunger. Tune in and let's feel connected as the incredible community that we are! Even though things are different this year, together we can make this an amazing day for our neighbors in need.

We will be scheduling more virtual activities on social as we get closer to May 2nd. Updates on this page to come along the way!

WHAT TO DO WITH OFFLINE DONATIONS: CASH OR CHECKS

Since the event is virtual this year, you won't have a chance to bring your checks and cash donations with you to Boston Common to turn in to Project Bread. Here is what you should with donations you raise offline.

Cash: We strongly encourage you not to mail cash. If possible, keep the cash yourself and write a check to Project Bread for the cash amount.

Checks: Before you mail any checks to Project Bread, write your name in the memo line so we can credit your personal fundraiser. If it is a donation for your Team, and not your personal fundraiser, write your team name in the memo line so we can credit your team fundraiser (this is especially important for teams that are fundraising as part of The Commonwealth program).

  • Ask your donors to make checks payable to "Project Bread"

Mail Your Donations to Project Bread:

You can print out these Tally Cards to include when you mail checks to Project Bread to help us correctly credit them to your fundraiser - or team fundraiser.

  • Mail checks to:

Project Bread
145 Border Street
East Boston, MA 02128

Login to your Participant Center and add your Offline Gifts: This will update your fundraising total to accurately reflect how much you have raised!

Share your training, fundraising support on social media with #WalkforHunger and tag @projectbread. Let's inspire one another as we support our communities and neighbors facing hunger.
