Strengthening Latino Families
Strengthening Latino Families is a campaign to address hunger and food insecurity in the Latino community. Project Bread knows that Latinos in low-income communities suffer high rates of food insecurity and hunger, and that they are also underutilizing food resources such as SNAP. To address this, we launched a campaign to put healthy food within reach by increasing participation in the SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, formally known as food stamps) among low-income Latino workers. It includes an initiative of Project Bread and the Department of Transitional Assistance, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture/Food Nutrition Services.*
Especially in tough economic times, SNAP helps the most vulnerable populations stretch their food budgets; promotes good health by allowing families to access healthier food; brings in significant dollars to the local economy, and can support employment by improving employee retention.
